I've put off doing this because... well, I don't know. I guess I was afraid I wouldn't generate enough content.
But, that doesn't really matter since I'm not under any expectation to update regularly with a readership of 1 (me).
Right now, as of the beginning of this blog, I cook a serious dinner an average of once a week. I try to do a different recipe every week, except those rare weeks where I'm pressed for time and settle for sandwiches or plain spaghetti with meat sauce.
Past experiments include replication of several of my mom's dishes, such as sloppy chicken, "good meat," tortellini soup, and pot roast. That's not to say that all of my mom's dishes are "down home" cooking. Quite the opposite, she's got a broad range of culinary talent- so much so that my high school friends nominated our house in a "best area restaurant" poll. In 2008 I've branched more into things I've never seen my mom cook, like chicken curry.
My own cooking is limited by my budget, and therefore I cook fewer choice meats and fish and more lower cost foods. The advantage to you, if you're reading the blog, is that most of my meals generally cost much less than $50.
My own adventures are to be chronicled here. Coming soon are the notes I posted to Facebook, and the Shrimp & Grits hybrid recipe. I also plan to cook the aforementioned curry again so that I can photograph it.
